The class gives an introduction to blockchain basics, including the definition and importance
of blockchains and decentralization. It further advances the understanding of students of the
technology background and delves into the mechanics of Proof of Work and Proof of Stake, as
well as tokens and NFTs. Students will explore the concepts of stablecoins and tokenomics,
focusing on various types and design possibilities. The course also addresses blockchain scaling
through Layer1, Layer2, and appchains solutions. A fundamental understanding of Decentralized
Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) is provided, followed by real-world applications where each
DAO topic is split into a 45-minute theoretical introduction and a 45-minute guest lecture from
a representative of the respective DAO, covering Aave, MakerDAO, Arbitrum, Molecule, and
BanklessDAO (Guest Lectures Tbd). Additionally, students will have the opportunity to learn from
venture capitalists who invest in Web3 how to aquire funding. The course assessment includes a
6-page paper and a group presentation on an existing or new DAO.

from both a theoretical and academic as well as practitioner standpoint
Examination
The examination consists of a 6-page paper (75%) and a presentation (25%) on an existing or new
DAO (group of 2 students).
