Startup Insights: Unlocking Quantum Potential

The course is designed to engage 30 selected management students with an entrepreneurial mindset and equip them with basic knowledge about quantum technologies and to enhance their understanding of its applications in various industries. Over seven weeks, participants will delve into the basics of quantum technology and explore its business applications through interactive sessions featuring industry experts and physics researchers. This foundational knowledge will prepare them for a subsequent course the can apply for called "Quantum Entrepreneurship Laboratory", a plugin module where selected management students have the chance to join 20 physics students to form interdisciplinary teams. Together, they will tackle real-world challenges and develop startup ideas, creating a dynamic environment for entrepreneurial growth and innovation.

Learning outcomes

Students who have attended this seminar will have - A basic understanding of key concepts in the field of quantum technology - Knowledge of the key challenges integrating quantum technology for startups, as well as promising approaches and methods to address these challenges And have acquired skills related to - The application of quantum technology to solve business use cases - Critical thinking, reflection and application of concepts and scientific findings to concrete challenges - Preparing and delivering a "startup" pitch

Examination

The examination performance consists of 1) Group presentation in the form of a detailed set of slides (70% of the final grade: 20% individual grade and 50% overall group performance) 2) Innovative practical examples (students look for practical, highly innovative and impactful examples of the course topics from companies) (30% of the final grade) In the examination, students demonstrate that they have - have understood an assigned topic in depth and have demonstrated the most important aspects in a way that is understandable for their fellow students - have identified and prepared practical fields of application for this topic - have presentation and communication skills that enable them to present and discuss their findings on this topic in a clear and structured manner.

Teaching & learning methods

In the course of the seminar, students will receive input on the topics covered in various thematic blocks, as well as working materials for self-study and review. Subsequently, the contents are deepened in the seminar in the context of exercises, role plays, reflections, presentations and discussions. As part of the examination, the participants will work on a specific uses case applying Quantum Technology to solve industry specifc issues and prepare this didactically so that all other course participants can also benefit from it. At the end of the seminar they will have the opportunity to present and discuss this topic in front of the other students and a jury that will award the best stundet group with a price. Based on this, the students will have a solid understanding on how to apply qunatum technology to solve business use cases.
